Purple Sky Counseling

Trauma, EMDR and Healing

We are the leaders in Utah for Trauma and EMDR Therapy. Here at Purple Sky Counseling we are passionate about providing cutting edge and compassionate services for healing. All of our therapists are not only skilled in EMDR and other trauma modalities, we work as a team to provide the needed support for your healing journey.
Here at PSC we know your brain has an amazing ability to heal and process everyday events. But if your brain is overwhelmed or traumatized, it isn’t able to process the event fully and the memory becomes fragmented, not allowing the event to heal. When that occurs, the memory becomes a trauma or psychological trauma subconsciously, within your brain and body.
This often leads to struggling with disturbing thoughts, uncomfortable body sensations and overwhelming emotions when you think about the event or something else in your life that reminds you of the experience. Over time, the one experience starts to generalize to all experiences, and your struggle continues throughout your life.
Therapy for your trauma allows you to heal your underlying wounds, move past your trauma and live the life you want. It is truly life changing. We are here to help you on that journey.

About EMDR

EMDR (which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) allows the brain to reprocess the traumatic event in a way that lets it heal completely. It supports the brain and body to no longer relive and re-experience that moment in your life. Your subconscious thoughts, feelings and behaviors shift, allowing you to be your authentic self.
Our clinicians are highly skilled in working with trauma and using EMDR to support you through your healing process. Therapists will pair EMDR with other evidence-based approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Parts Work, DBR (Deep Brain Reorienting), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other somatic techniques, so clients can address the underlying causes of unhealed trauma, develop coping skills, and cultivate resilience.

Our team is led by Cassidy DuHadway – the leading trainer in Utah for EMDR. Cassidy has trained over 750 therapists on this modality in Utah with more elsewhere. For information on consultation, training and resources click here.

Unhealed trauma lingers beneath the surface, impacting every aspect of our lives in ways we may not fully understand. Whether stemming from a single event or accumulated experiences over time, unresolved trauma can manifest in various symptoms and behaviors, affecting our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Recognizing the signs of unhealed trauma is the crucial first step towards reclaiming our sense of peace, resilience, and empowerment.

Unhealed trauma can manifest in a myriad of ways, often presenting as:

  • Emotional Dysregulation
  • Physical Symptoms including chronic pain, headaches, gastrointestinal issues, and other physical symptoms
  • Avoidance of places, people, activities, or conversations that evoke distressing memories.
  • Hyperarousal: Feeling constantly on edge, jumpy, anxious, and/or easily startled
  • Negative Beliefs and Self-Perceptions like struggling with not enoughness, belonging, being love and/or wanted.
  • Relationship and Interpersonal Difficulties
  • Flashbacks or Intrusive Memories of the traumatic event(s)

Incomplete

Trauma, EMDR and Healing

TRAUMA AND A PAINFUL PAST DO NOT HAVE TO AFFECT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. YOU CAN HEAL AND LIVE A FULFILLING LIFE.

People may tell you that you “overreact” to situations. Perhaps you even feel like you overreact, but you can’t turn it off. You’re always waiting for something bad to happen and it feels like everything in your world is tainted by your past.

You may have lived for years thinking it was normal to always be on edge and always expect others to fail you. But now you realize there may be a different reality available to you. You see that not everyone “is like this” and you want to know if you really can experience a joyful life with satisfying and supportive relationships.

Your Brain Has Been Protecting You

Your brain has an amazing ability to heal and process everyday events. But if your brain is overwhelmed or traumatized, it isn’t able to process the event fully and the memory becomes fragmented, not allowing the event to heal. When that occurs, the memory becomes a trauma or psychological trauma inside the brain.

This often leads to struggling with disturbing thoughts, uncomfortable body sensations and overwhelming emotions when you think about the event or something else in your life reminds you of the experience.

That’s why at Purple Sky Counseling, we specialize in a well-researched therapy for trauma called EMDR.
“I tried so many different kinds of therapy. This worked for me. This let me heal. I feel more like me than I have in years. It no longer runs my life.”

EMDR Therapy for Trauma

EMDR (which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) allows the brain to reprocess the event in a way that lets it heal completely. It supports the brain and allows you to no longer relive and re-experience that moment in your life every time you think of it. Your thoughts, feelings and behaviors change, allowing you to be your whole self.

Traumatic experiences can happen to anyone and everyone handles these situations differently. Your brain can also experience any disturbing life event as a trauma if it is already overwhelmed.

“It was the most effective thing I have ever done. I was able to feel better about things that I have been carrying with me my whole life. I didn’t think they were problems, but then they were gone and I realized how much they had been affecting me. For me, it was absolutely life changing. ”
